Cultivate an ever continuous power of observation. Wherever you are, be always ready to make slight notes of postures, groups and incidents. Store up in the mind ... a continuous stream of observations from which to make selections later. Above all things get abroad, see the sunlight and everything that is to be seen.

~ John Singer Sargent.

The Artistic Wisdom of Chuck Close.

Today,
I celebrate
the 4th of July
with the Artistic Wisdom
of renowned and celebrated
American Artist,
Chuck Close.

--------------------------------------------------
Oil on canvas. 102" x 86"
Private Collection, New York.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Painting is the most magical of mediums. The transcendence is truly amazing to me every time I go to a museum and I see how somebody figured another way to rub colored dirt onto a flat surface and make space where there is no space or make you think of Life experience.

~ Chuck Close.

The Artistic Wisdom of Paul Cezanne.

Paul Cezanne. Mont Sainte-Victoire. Oil on canvas. 65 x 81 cm. 1904-06.

All my life I have worked to be able to earn my living, but I thought that one could do good painting without attracting attention to one's private life. Certainly, an artist wishes to raise himself intellectually as much as possible, but the man must remain obscure. The pleasure must be found in the work.

~ Paul Cezanne.
